Huawei Honor 4G LTE

China’s Huawei today launched the Honor Play 4 in its home country. The device comes with a very entry-level price of 799 Yuan (US$130 approx.), but features a 64-bit processor that’s often seen in higher-end devices.

The device features a 1280 x 720p resolution on a 5-inch panel as you would expect from a mid-range. Under the hood lies the star of the show, which in this case is the 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 SoC that is built on the 64-bit architecture. Thanks to the price tag that is meant to be within reach, the Snapdragon 410 only gets coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, with the latter being of expandable nature.

Honor Play 4 is set to go on sale for just around $130 tomorrow 23rd on Huawei’s own Vmall Chinese store and it’s destined for China telecom only for now. We don’t have information yet about the availability outside China but you might be able to import one from there and use it overseas if you would want to. Huawei might update the devices Android 4.4.3 OS to Android L when it’s available to grant the full advantage of 64bit computing. Don’t expect much of a speed difference just because this processor supports 64bit computing, but power consumption will be lower due to ARM Cortex A53 instruction set and it will run cooler. For the price of $130 we really can’t complain but Huawei too have nearly same price alternatives such as Honor 3C if you are stuck at making a choice.

Another impressive feature for a $130 device is 4G LTE, and NFC. It does look like what we called ‘flagship’ in 2013 will be mid-range much before the end of this year, especially when you consider the two features we just talked about.
